Love Failure and obsession with beards

Whenever I had decided to grow a beard, I came across many ridiculous comments from different people.

Some of the really good ones are :
1. Are you going to Sabarimalai (especially in the month of May?? I don't think the temple is open during May)??
2. Don't you have enough money to go for a shave??
3. Are the shops which sell shaving razors closed??
4. Did you have a love failure??

The fourth question usually strikes me. Why should guys grow a beard if they had a love failure?? What will girls do if they had a love failure (as they can't grow beards, maybe they might grow their hair)???

What's this "LOVE FAILURE" concept??
This has been really troubling me for a long time (ever since my facial hair started growing).

As far as I can understand, a guy and a girl start liking / loving each other and long to spend time together. One fine day, they split due to some reason or the other. They feel sad about it. I think this is what is called or termed as "Love Failure". This will bring in a lot of bitterness and sadness to the individuals concerned.

Still my question lingers on and on... How can you associate beards with love failure.
Many great people had beards, but does that mean they had "love failure" during their lifetime.

Looks like this will still remain an unsolved mystery for times to come. Hopefully someone can come up with an answer.
Meanwhile, watch this place, I might finally solve this.

i guess it's because devdas and other famous heros of yester years grew beards when they lost in love!!! Basically, before u fall in love or during love...u r conscious of ur appearence, u want to look the best. But when someone rejects u, and u have 'lost' in love...u don't care anymore...it's a time of depression in which u really don't bother to keep up ur appearence. Makes sense??? :)

If I'm not wrong, in the latest Devdas movie, Shahrukh Khan didn't even hv a stubble let alone a beard, so does dat mean dat da latest Devdas had some problem growing facial hair???

Hmmm... interesting thought...a lot depends on da individual as well.... If guys r as lazy as me, they don't need love failure to grow beards.. now think abt dat... There r also few guys, who think they can save millions by not goin 2 a barber or buyin shavin equipment and grow beards.. :-P .. Looks like this contradicts ur theory ;-)

Yes...but i was talking of yester years...and they are the people that the general junta remember!!! In the past...ppl were like that...and therefore associate having beards with love failure. Now things have changed...but people are still in the past...and that's why they asak a man with a beard whether he has had a love failure. U only asked why u get such comments...and i still think my theory stands true to that.

Ok.. i take ur answer .. but i'm still not very convinced.

Being a guy, who prefers 2 live in da present, it's getting too difficult 4 me to comprehend wat happend in da past ;)

:) got here through a comment in my blog post. I had written about the same topic.

and i have a theory about the love failure - beard association. maybe it is because lots of hindu's don't shave or cut their hair/nails during mourning. so maybe it is a mourning of the death of love :P

The original idea of growing a beard because of "love failure" is, the guy who had a love failure thinks that, "the face(his face) which was once liked by his love(r) should not be seen by any other women, since it will make his love worthless". so he grows a beard so that no one can see his face fully. You don't see a guy who had love failure, growing only a beard but keeping a mustache. Every guy who had love failure(true love) will grow a beard & a mustache.
